Central Texas seniors under stay-at-home orders can receive meals thanks to $304,000 grant

Central Texas seniors stuck at home under stay-at-home orders qualify to receive meals as part of a grant the state received in late March.

CENTRAL, Texas — The Central Texas Area Agency on Aging received more than $304,000 as part of a grant to help feed Central Texas seniors impacted by the coronavirus pandemic and shelter-in-place orders.

Gov. Greg Abbott announced in late March that Texas has received a $16.2 million grant from the Department of Health and Human Services' Administration for Community Living to help communities provide meals for seniors.

The grant was part of a $250 million expenditure authorized by the Families First Coronavirus Response Act signed into law in mid-March by President Donald Trump.

Seniors 60 and older residing in Bell, Coryell, Hamilton, Lampasas, Milam, Mills and San Saba counties who are sheltering-in-place are eligible for meals.
