WACO, Texas — The Humane Society of Central Texas on Circle Road in Waco announced Friday that they were giving away $100 Amazon gift cards for anyone who adopts dogs 40 lbs. and up over July 4th weekend.
In a Facebook post, they said their goal was to open 75 kennels, hoping to relieve the capacity crisis hitting their shelter and many around the country.
The Humane Society of North Texas begged people to adopt, saying "shelters across the nation are ALL feeling extreme pressures from the community that is straining the shelter systems". Large dogs in particular are less attractive to potential pet-owners, and they "have to wait much longer" for homes.
All dogs are also available for foster.
The doors opened on Friday at noon, and the shelter's hours and information can be found on their website.
