KILLEEN, Texas — A Killeen-based rescue is asking for the community's help to continue helping cats in the Central Texas area.
Snip and Tip is an organization that aims to "transform the challenge of free-roaming cats from a reactive problem to a community-driven initiative", according to their mission statement. Snip and Tip conducts Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR), public awareness campaigns and sterilization services to "those who need it most".
So far, in 2024 alone, Snip and Tip says it has cared for over 1,039 cats. While the organization says each cat has left "an indelible mark" on their hearts, they say the work they do is also expensive, estimating around $40,000 to keep the mission going, in addition to incidentals such as food, transportation and shelter.
Snip and Tip is also reportedly losing its current facility in May and is now trying to find room for the cats elsewhere. The organization said grant money has only been accepted by Lampasas, meaning cats in Bell County will only receive care if people are willing to contribute $50 per cat.
To help with the costs of its mission, Snip and Tip is asking for donations and help from the Central Texas community. The organization said it hopes to be recognized soon, especially with Temple's new Human-Animal Support Coalition "on the horizon", but said they will still have to scale back operations without support.
