KILLEEN, Texas — The Bunny Trail reconstruction project is breaking ground July 23 at Haynes Elementary School. The project is expected to last at least 300 days and will cost $5.8 million.
The construction includes a full replacement of the roadway, curb and gutter, sidewalk and drainage at the intersection of West Stan Schluter Loop. The project extends from Stan Schluter Loop to Canadian River Loop.
The City of Killeen approved RT Schneider for construction of the project at the May 7 city council meeting.
As one of the roads residents requested the city to focus on, many people took to Facebook to share their approval of the road reconstruction.
The groundbreaking will take place at 9 a.m. and will include speakers Mayor Debbie Nash-King and City Engineer Andrew Zagars.
A part of Killeen's City Comprehensive Plan and dedication to improving roads, the Bunny Trail reconstruction is one of seven roads the city is focusing on. Other roads in the plan include Gilmer Street, Watercrest Road, Willow Springs Road, Chapparal Road, Stagecoach Road and Rancier Avenue. Quarterly updates on all major road construction can be found on the Killeen Engineering website.
