Belton Lake water levels have went down, allowing families to celebrate Labor Day

The water level was hitting record highs earlier in the summer, but have subsided.

BELTON, Texas — Earlier this summer high levels of heavy rainfall caused many lakes in the area to reach record high water levels, now it seems the water has subsided as local families celebrate Labor Day.

"Years before that it was really dry, all those lines for the swimming area, they were laying on the ground, it's nice out now, it's perfect," said George Gonzales.

According to Water Data for Texas, Texas water levels are at 97%, which means families can go out and celebrate.

"You want that water level to be up, it'll help in a lot of different ways," said Maria Jimenez. "Especially when it's clear like this. You're actually able to walk into the water and see your feet. I don't like to go where it's too murky."
