TEXAS, USA — Congratulations to the Channel 6 team members who were nominated for 2018 Texas Associated Press broadcast awards.

Every award category receives entries from across the state and is narrowed down to two finalists. Channel 6 had six team members nominated for five awards.

Sports anchor Jessica Morrey and promotions producer Ryan Hauser won first place for best sports story with "Love, Dad." The piece told the story of China Spring's Mark Bell passing down the title of Cougar Head Coach to his son Brian.

Jessica also won second place in the sports anchor category.

Texas Today anchors Chris Rogers and Heidi Alagha took home the title of best anchor team. Judges called the pair "slick and energetic" and praised their chemistry, confidence and work both at and away from the anchor desk.
