Central Texas family races to finish repairing tornado damage ahead of next storm

A family whose home was seriously damaged by a tornado just two weeks ago is scrambling to fix their house before the next round of severe weather hits.

KEMPNER, Texas — Just two weeks after a tornado severely damaged a Kempner couple's dream home, the pair is scrambling to make the necessary repairs before the next round of severe weather hits.

Josephina Limjoco and Gilbert Robles left southern California to retire to the home they built. They never expected a tornado would literally begin to rip that home apart.

"I hope it doesn't happen again," Gilbert said. "There's storms coming. We've seen storms through here... Never did it cross my mind that I would have the devastation that I had here."

The couple said a tornado was something they never expected to encounter, but the experience would stay with them forever.

The roof ripped from its shingles, and water damage is causing the ceiling to collapse on everything they own.

"I just, I didn't know anything about the tornadoes," Josephina said. "I had heard about it but until you experience one, you have no idea."

Two weeks and countless frustrating calls to insurance companies later, the couple are racing to fix whatever damage they can before another storm comes their way.

Gilbert's advice to anyone who finds themselves in the path of a storm: Listen to the experts.

"Look at the weather," he said. "Look at the news, what they're telling you to do. Look at your TV.  They'll tell you. Take cover. Go somewhere."
