Breaking down the Jenna Scott and Michael Swearingin case: How Cedric Marks fits in

This complicated case features a pile of court documents and crosses multiple state lines. KCEN Channel 6 explains the timeline of events.

TEMPLE, Texas — The Oklahoma State Medical Examiner identified the bodies found in a rural part of the state Thursday as Jenna Scott and Michael Swearingin. The two had not been seen since 3 a.m. on Jan. 4.

But the path that ended with the tragic discovery was long and involved multiple people, all connected to one man named Cedric Marks.

The day after Scott and Swearingin disappeared Swearingin's car was found in Austin, according to Temple police.

Swearingin's mother, Debbie Harrison, said she believes the two were abducted in Temple from Swearingin's house, because his alarm system was going off and some security footage was missing.

As of Jan. 17, Temple police haven't named a suspect in the case, however, Scott's ex-boyfriend, Cedric Marks, was charged with breaking into her home back in August.

Marks and Scott were also in the middle of a court case after he accused her of assault.

Marks was arrested in Grand Rapids, Michigan Jan. 8 for a burglary charge and was set to be extradited to Bell County.

Two other people connected to this case were also arrested in Michigan. Ginell McDonough is Marks' wife. She was charged with harboring a fugitive for letting Marks and another woman stay with her from Jan. 5 to Jan. 9.

The other woman in the house was Maya Maxwell. She is facing charges out of Bell County for tampering with or fabricating physical evidence.

Maxwell has a direct connection to the case involving Scott and Swearingin's disappearance.

Maxwell's arrest affidavit said she gave a voluntary interview where she admitted being involved in moving Swearingin's car to Austin. She agreed to be extradited to Bell County in a court hearing in Michigan on Jan. 16.

The case crossed state lines again when the bodies of Scott and Swearingin were found Jan. 15 near Clearview, Oklahoma, a town of about 60 people, according to Temple police.

Channel 6 learned that Marks has ties to the small town. He has family in the area and his dad grew up there.

Channel 6 also learned Scott wasn't the first woman involved with Marks to go missing.

Marks has a son with a woman named April Pease from Washington state.

They were in a bitter custody battle over their son, according to court documents. Pease was given temporary custody and was staying in a women's shelter in Minnesota.

She went missing in March of 2009 and her son went back into Marks' custody.

Channel 6 spoke with April's mom, Dottie Pease. She said she believed her daughter might have had a drug relapse, however, with the new information out of Texas, she said it's possible Marks could have had something to do with April's disappearance.
