TEMPLE, Texas — The tax rate for the Temple Independent School District will remain unchanged for the upcoming year, the TISD board of trustees voted at a meeting on Monday, Sept. 9.
According to TISD, the vote will leave the tax rate at $1.1489, matching last year's rate, which the district says is the lowest level for TISD since the 2010 tax year.
$0.7939 will be designated for maintenance and operation, according to the district, and $0.3550 designated for payment of debt service. The current tax rate is 25.14 cents lower than it was seven years ago, TISD said.
“Temple ISD just completed $70 million worth of bond projects, welcomed more students to the district and are currently mitigating the damages from the May 22 tornadoes,” said Dr. Bobby Ott, superintendent of Temple schools. “I could not be more proud of the expertise we have in our Finance Department and our board’s commitment to taking care of our taxpayers.”
“We have worked very closely with the TISD board of trustees in setting the tax rate,” Brandy Stanford, chief financial officer for Temple ISD, said. “Maintaining the current tax rate will allow us to continue with our strategic plan of bond refinancing to ultimately save our taxpayers on interest costs. We will continue to demonstrate the utmost fiscal responsibility with the resources that are entrusted to us.”
