Amazon warehouse in Waco preparing for holiday rush

Waco facility General Manager Juan Lopez told 6 News they shipped over 350,000 packages during Cyber Monday.

WACO, Texas — It's all gas and no brakes for employees at the Amazon Fulfilment Center (AUS3) in Waco after a record-breaking Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

As the holidays get underway, warehouse General Manager Juan Lopez told 6 News his location sent out over 350,000 packages on Cyber Monday and they're expecting to see those same numbers throughout December.

"We usually get 200,000 orders on average, but this year was the most we've ever seen since the facility came to Waco," Lopez explained.

The Amazon facility opened in Waco in July 2022 and has since hired over 1,000 employees. They hired an additional 1,000 employees for the holidays to fulfill orders efficiently.

Lopez says with this facility being in the heart of Central Texas, it's a benefit for nearby customers as they'll likely receive their packages even faster.

"With having this location here, it's allowing to have all these customers to get their packages quicker because we have more items in this area that you can get your packages faster," Lopez added.

When placing your order on the Amazon website, the system at the facility will have your order processed in under 90 minutes.

To make sure packages make it out of the facility in a timely manner, Amazon Spokesperson Scott Seroka explained how they've implemented robots and new technology that sorts through packages on their own.

"Our system is ready to go every once in a while," Seroka said. "If there's a weight that's off the system we will figure that out, kick the box back, repack it, and figure it out how to get it out the door quickly."
