'Your success will be my success' | Waco Fire Department swears in newest Fire Chief

The City of Waco said Scott Walker was chosen from over 60 applicants after a nationwide search.

WACO, Texas — The Waco Fire Department officially has a new Fire Chief.

Scott Walker was sworn in as the City of Waco's new Fire Chief at a ceremony at Fire Station Six on Monday, Aug. 12, the City of Waco announced.

According to the City, Walker joined Waco FD from the Phoenix Fire Department, where he served for over 30 years, working his way up from Engineer to Executive Assistant Fire Chief.

"As a servant leader, I am committed to ensuring that you have the tools, the training, the support, the opportunity to be engaged and are empowered to serve our community," Walker addressed the Waco Police Department. "Your success will be my success."

Walker was selected for the role from a pool of 60 applicants nationwide after an "extensive" search by Waco FD, the City said.

"It is my intention to utilize my 30-plus years of fire service experience to reinforce the strengths of the Waco Fire Department, which there are many, and to build upon our opportunities, ensuring that we are prepared to meet not just today's needs and expectations, but those of tomorrow," Walker said at the ceremony.

Walker is the 14th Fire Chief in the 150-year history of Waco, the City stated in a post on social media.

The City of Waco says Waco FD is made up of over 220 employees and 13 fire stations, with a 14th under construction. First responders reportedly answer over 22,000 calls for service each year.
