Two Waco High School students saved from carbon monoxide poisoning in truck, school says

Waco ISD said the two students were found unresponsive in a truck by other students, who alerted school personnel.

WACO, Texas — Two Waco High School students were saved from accidental carbon monoxide poisoning on Sept. 17, Waco ISD stated.

According to the district, two students were found "unresponsive" in a parked truck around 11:40 a.m. on Sept. 17. Waco ISD said it was determined the truck had a missing tailpipe on its muffler, which caused exhaust fumes to enter the cab of the truck.

Other students reportedly alerted school personnel to the situation and the two students were saved. First responders were then reportedly able to help.

"We are grateful to the students who alerted school personnel for assistance and to emergency responders who arrived quickly to the scene to render aid," Waco ISD said in a statement. "A crisis was averted by these individuals who saved these students' lives.”

No further information has been given at this time.
