Temple Police Sergeant to be recognized for life-saving actions

Sergeant Casey Sheppard saved a man's life by performing CPR during a cardiac emergency on Jan. 1, 2024, according to the Temple Police Department.

TEMPLE, Texas — A Sergeant with the Temple Police Department will be recognized this February for helping to save a man's life in January 2024, announced Temple PD.

The department stated Sergeant Casey Sheppard will be recognized for his heroic actions at a City of Temple Council Meeting on Feb. 15.

According to Temple PD, Sheppard was driving home on Jan. 1 when he heard a cardiac emergency call in the 700 block of Olde Oaks Dr. The call, which was initially dispatched by the Bell County Sheriff's Office, was reportedly duplicated to the Temple Police Department due its proximity and urgency.

When Sheppard arrived, Temple PD said he quickly began performing CPR on a 79-year-old man who had stopped breathing. Temple PD stated that through Sheppard's "quick thinking and proficient execution of life-saving measures", he was able to restore the man's breathing.

The Little River Academy Fire Department arrived afterward to provide further medical intervention, stabilizing the man for transport to medical facilities, said Temple PD.

"Sgt. Sheppard's dedication to duty and exemplary response in a critical situation embodies the values of the Temple Police Department,” said Temple Police Department Chief Shawn Reynolds. “His actions undoubtedly saved a life, and we are immensely proud to honor him for his service."

Temple PD said it extends its sincere appreciation to Sheppard for his "unwavering commitment to public safety and the well-being of the community".

At the City Council meeting, Temple PD said Sheppard is expected to be reunited with the man he saved.
