'We saw our main source of livelihood go up in flames' | Temple family in need of community support to rebuild food truck business

According to officials, a fire broke out on Oct. 25 at the Jalisco DF food truck, located on South 1st Street and East Avenue L.

TEMPLE, Texas — The owners of the beloved Temple food truck Jalisco DF Antojitos y mas are asking the community for support to help rebuild their business after losing their food truck in a fire.

According to officials, the fire broke out on Sunday, Oct. 22. Fortunately, no one was injured.

The owners of the food truck, Leticia Olarde and Miguel De La Cerda, say they were one month away from celebrating their 6-year anniversary of serving the Temple community.

"I never thought that something like this would happen to us. Seeing the firefighters take on such a huge fire," said Olarde. "We saw our main source of livelihood go up in flames."

The family said the fire left the interior of the food truck in ashes. According to Olarde and De La Cerda, all of the costs to repair the structure will be paid out of pocket.

The community is now coming together to raise money for the family-owned business through a GoFundMe page.

"We try to be as neighborly as possible to all our clients. It's the neighborly thing to do. We've had people forget their things like their wallets, and we return them because it's the right thing to do," said De La Cerda. "Now, we're hoping the community can help by supporting us."

Olarde says this has been one of the toughest years for the business, located at South 1st Street and East Avenue L.

Back in July, the truck was broken into and someone stole their money bags and phone, according to a Facebook post. In the same post, the owners updated the public and said the Temple Police Department had evidence in that case.

"We will lift ourselves up from this. We still hadn't recovered from the robbery we went through earlier this year. With the help of God and our community we can overcome this," said Olarde.
