Salado teen who has spent months in the hospital seeing encouraging improvement

16-year-old Reagan Williams was airlifted to the hospital in August and has been showing strength in her recovery ever since.

SALADO, Texas — A Salado teen who has been in the hospital for over three months is making great strides in her recovery.

6 News shared 16-year-old Reagan Williams' story and the fight she had ahead of her in early September after she was airlifted to an Austin hospital, where she had to be resuscitated.

Since then, Reagan has moved from the cardiac care unit to the rehab unit.

"This time when we went to the hospital, we just weren't sure if we were going to come home and so it has been very, very scary," said Jennifer Williams, Reagan's mother. "We've been here a little over three months and still have some battles to cross but you know, she just amazes us every day and we just keep on keepin' on.

Reagan has been battling a congenital heart condition and DiGeorge syndrome, a chromosomal syndrome.

Jennifer Williams said Reagan is spending her days doing physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy. The Williams family said they even received word that it's possible Reagan could be discharged from the hospital on Dec. 28, but it's going to be up to her fight and strength. The family is asking for prayers that there are no setbacks.

"This has been a little bit harder hospitalization because she's older, she understands more and she is realizing how much harder this is on her to be able to get better, but she wants to do it now because she's seeing some results and realizing that that may get her to a point where she can go back and see her friends."

After her hospitalization, Williams received an outpouring of support from the Salado ISD community, even being nominated for Homecoming court in September.
