BELTON, Texas — All-American athletes are coming out of Lake Belton High School.
5-star wide receiver and Texas Tech commit Micah Hudson is heading to the Under Armour Next Football All-American game, while 4-star CB and Arkansas commit Selman Bridges is taking his talents to the All-American Bowl in San Antonio.
Both athletes have put on an absolute show for the Broncos this season, helping lead their team to a 7-2 overall record, and sitting at 5-2 in district play.
On Thursday, Nov. 2, both athletes received their respective jerseys in front of their coaches, teammates and family. This was an honor Lake Belton Head Coach, Brian Cope, has never had the chance to be a part of.
"I have been doing this for 18 years, and this is the first one that I have ever been a part of," Cope said. "It's an incredible opportunity that these two men have been given."
The best 100 high school football players in the nation are selected to play in each of these bowl games. Micah Hudson and Selman Bridges are two of them. They both feel it is the perfect step before taking their talents to the collegiate level.
"It's great being able to play against great competition and players even better than me," Hudson said. "Players that are highly ranked and things like that. It'll be really fun to get a taste of that before going off to college."
"To be around guys who are some of the best in the country and get to learn and compete," said Bridges. "I'm excited to just talk to them and learn from them and compete."
Bridges has been Hudson's right-hand man since the two were little kids. Now, they got to share this moment together. Cope remembers watching them play together in middle school. Nov. 2 was a very full-circle moment.
"Iron sharpens iron. They go against each other all the time and they do such a great job competing day in and day out. I can't wait to watch them. It couldn't happen to two better young men," said Cope.
Selman Bridges will compete in the All-American Bowl in San Antonio on Jan. 6, while Micah Hudson will showcase his talents in the Under Armour All-American Game in Orlando on Jan. 3.
