GoFundMe created for family of Salado ISD teacher killed in crash

The community is raising money for the family of Kimberly "Kim" Kosh-Ruiz.

SALADO, Texas — The Salado community is raising money after a Salado ISD teacher died in a car crash on Wednesday, Oct. 23.

Kimberly "Kim" Kosh-Ruiz, a second-grade teacher at Thomas Arnold Elementary School, was in the car with her 9-year-old son when she was involved in the crash. Her son is reportedly recovering in the hospital and another driver involved, a 26-year-old man, was reportedly taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A GoFundMe has now been created by Sara Lutz, a friend of Kosh-Ruiz and member of the Thomas Arnold Elementary Parent-Teacher Organization, to help raise money for the family. To donate to the GoFundMe, visit this link.

Lutz sent 6 News the following statement on behalf of the GoFundMe:

"Kim Ruiz was a dedicated teacher for over 16 years in KISD & SISD. She has been a part of the Salado community for the last 4 years teaching kindergarten and second grade. Kim believed in telling every one of her students, every single day that she loved them as they left for the day. Kim wanted her students to be reminded each day that at least one person loved them unconditionally every day.

Kim leaves behind her loving husband, Hector, three daughters, Brooke, Britney and Brenna, and a son Grant. Grant was also involved in the accident and is stable but has a long road of recovery ahead of [him].

The family, while still in shock, is trying to move forward with arrangements for Kim as well as an on-going medical plan for Grant. The family is accepting donations through GoFundMe to aid in loss of work for Hector, medical costs for Grant, funeral arrangements, etc. Any help is appreciated.

The family would like to thank every person who has shared stories, pictures, donated funds, supported Kim's school & students. The love from the Salado community has been overwhelming and thank you is not enough."

Salado ISD has asked the community to keep the family in their thoughts and prayers. The elementary school is reportedly offering free counseling services to students or employees.

Texas DPS says the crash investigation is still active and open.
