TEMPLE, Texas — A trial date has been set in the long-delayed murder case against Cedric Marks.
The trial is set to begin April 17, 2023, with jury selection beginning on April 10.
The trial will be held in the 426th District Court with Judge Steven Duskie presiding.
Marks is charged with the murders of his ex-girlfriend Jenna Scott and her friend Michael Swearingin in 2019 and burying their bodies on a piece of land his family owned in Oklahoma.
The trial date was set after over a month of individual questioning of potential jurors, which Marks, who is representing himself in the trial, requested.
Attorneys interviewed potential jurors in voir dire hearings beginning on Feb. 21, 2023, according to the Court Coordinator for the 426th District Court. Voir dire is defined as a preliminary examination of a witness or juror by a judge or counsel where each side gets to question the potential juror and either strike them or have no objections to them remaining in the pool of jurors.
The trial has been delayed numerous times as Marks and prosecutors have made additional requests and motions in the case.
