LACY LAKEVIEW, Texas — A Connally ISD student has died following an accident on Oct. 9, the district has announced.
According to Connally ISD, Za'hir Johnson, a kindergarten student at Connally Early Childhood Center, has died.
The district said counselors and support from the Region 12 Education Service Center have been coordinated to assist students and staff during this difficult time. The Early Childhood Center has reportedly been provided with age-appropriate resources to help younger students process the loss and information is being provided to parents.
CISD said they are in contact with Johnson's family and are "committed to providing them with support". The district is asking the community to support the family as well with thoughts and prayers.
The district said a student was hit by a vehicle on the evening of Wednesday, Oct. 9. The driver of the vehicle has reportedly been cooperative during the investigation and no criminal charges will be filed, police say.
