Civil rights lawyer to represent sister of man who died after being tased by Temple Police in case against police department

TEMPLE, Texas — A prominent civil rights lawyer will represent a Temple family in a case against the Temple Police Department, 6 News has learned.

Stacy Gordon, the sister of a man who died after being tased multiple times during a welfare check on Oct. 3, will reportedly be represented by the Ben Crump Law Firm.

43-year-old Billy Gordon died during a welfare check by Temple police after being tased multiple times within two minutes by an officer, police reported.

Crump has represented families in multiple high-profile police-involved cases, including George Floyd and Breonna Taylor.

6 News has reached out to the law firm but have not heard back at the time of writing.

The officer who deployed their taser during the welfare check is currently on paid administrative leave as police investigate the use of force, police said.
