KILLEEN, Texas — The City of Killeen is honoring the life of former councilmember Elizabeth Blackstone this January.
Blackstone died on Jan. 13 at the age of 75, having served on the Killeen Council from 2012 to 2015 as both councilwoman and Mayor Pro Tem, said the City of Killeen.
Blackstone had also worked for the Killeen Independent School District from 1982 to 2003.
“Our community has lost a dedicated public servant and a true champion of the people,” Killeen Mayor Debbie Nash-King said. “Ms. Blackstone poured her heart into making our city a better place for everyone. Her love for this community was evident in every decision she made and every action she took. She leaves behind a legacy of service and compassion that will inspire us all to continue the work she started.”
In honor of Blackstone, Nash-King ordered the City of Killeen flag to be flown at half-staff from Monday, Jan. 29 at 8 a.m. to Wednesday, Jan. 31 at 8 a.m.
A celebration of life funeral will be held for Blackstone at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church in Killeen at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 30.
The City offered its thoughts and condolences to Blackstone's family and loved ones.
To honor Blackstone's memory, her family has requested that donations be made to the Killeen Animal Shelter, the Killeen Independent School District's Homeless Student Program (H.A.R.P.) or the National Park Foundation.
