WACO, Texas — The Cameron Park Zoo has announced its new General Curator.
The zoo said Brian Henley has been promoted to the position after having served at the zoo for nearly 10 years.
According to the zoo, Henley has an extensive career in zoology and a decade-long tenure at the Cameron Park Zoo and will bring "a wealth of experience and dedication to wildlife conservation" to the role.
Henley began his career in zoology at the Gladys Porter Zoo in 2002, according to the Cameron Park Zoo. Since joining the Cameron Park Zoo nearly 10 years ago, the zoo said Henley has shown "exceptional leadership skills and a deep commitment to advancing the zoo's mission".
Before being named General Curator, Henley served as the supervisor of the herpetology department at the Cameron Park Zoo, where his "expertise and passion for reptiles" contributed to the department's success.
In addition to his role at the Cameron Park Zoo, the zoo said Henley also actively engages in conservation efforts on a global scale.
Cameron Park Zoo said Henley holds prominent positions on several esteemed boards within the zoo and academic communities, including serving on the Association of Zoos and Aquarium (AZA)'s Taxon Advisory Group Steering Committee for Crocodilians and being a member of the International Union for Conservation of Nature Species Survival Plan Crocodile Specialist Group.
Cameron Park Zoo said Henley has also contributed to initiatives like the International Iguana Foundation and the Cuban Crocodile program.
"Brian Henley's promotion to General Curator underscores Cameron Park Zoo's commitment to excellence and conservation stewardship," said the zoo in a statement. "His leadership will undoubtedly help propel the zoo to new heights as it continues to inspire and educate visitors about the wonders of the natural world."
