BRUCEVILLE-EDDY, Texas — Central Texas families are preparing to have some fun this 4th of July! With no burn ban in place in most counties, dozens are buying last-minute fireworks at local firework shops.
That's why shops like Night Light Fireworks are seeing a big boom in sales, and they wouldn't want it any other way.
It's hard to miss a store like Night Light Fireworks. If you've driven down I-35, you might have noticed a large shop with a mural on the side off Old Bethany Road in Bruceville.
"We have people from all over show up," Emerson Waskom, intern and Baylor student said. "So Lorena, Waco, Bruceville, even up in Temple. A lot of people come off I-35 because they see our mural and so sales have been really great."
Waskom says this is because there aren't burn bans in most counties right now.
"I think people are really excited about that," Waskom said. "They get to do even more than they probably were and they have a little more freedom."
From fresh faces to regular customers, Night Light is excited about this season.
"I think they impact us more than they realize," Waskom said.
The holiday impacts some families directly, such as the Salazars.
"I like it, but the most reason is because it's my grandpa's birthday," Carter Salazar said. "But he passed away though, but I still like to celebrate him."
The 4th of July brings hundreds of people together, and that's what many enjoy most.
"I'm proud to be an American," Waskom said.
Waskom says shoppers should head over sooner rather than later. Most shops are open until midnight, so you'll have some time to make a purchase!
Remember, fireworks are not legal everywhere. The discharge of fireworks within 5,000 ft of city limits can result in fines up to $2,500. Be sure to check regulations in your area.
