TEMPLE, Texas — The holiday spirit is alive and thriving as The Salvation Army of Bell County embarks on a mission to deliver hope and joy to over 1,200 children this season through the beloved Angel Tree program.
The Angel Tree toy distribution event is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, Dec. 20th, at 2603 Thornton Ln in Temple, within the Big Lots shopping center.
The Angel Tree program, supported by donors, provides new clothing and toys to children from families in need within the Bell County community.
Local companies and corporations show their support by hosting Angel Trees with numbered paper angel tags, each featuring the first name, age, and gender of a deserving child.
Captain David Beckham of The Salvation Army of Bell County expressed the impact of this program, stating, "This effort transcends the Salvation Army itself; it unites our entire community during Christmas. Each donated toy brings joy to the children and spreads happiness among their families. We are fortunate to be part of such a generous and giving community that shares its joy with others."
Beyond the act of delivering gifts to place under the Christmas tree, The Angel Tree program helps get rid of the stress that Christmas can bring to families facing financial challenges while striving to provide for their children.
Ashley, one such mother and an Angel Tree recipient, shared the transformative effect the program had on her family's holiday experience.
"We received some really nice gifts from The Salvation Army. I wrapped them all and labeled them from Santa. I wasn’t able to provide them, so to the kids, it looks like Santa brought them," Ashley explained. "The thought of your kids not opening anything on Christmas morning is hard to imagine, and my kids were very appreciative. The Salvation Army is doing the most good by helping families who are afraid to ask friends and family for help. Thank you for doing what I couldn’t do and making my children happy on Christmas."
The impact of The Angel Tree program extends beyond the holiday season. Salvation Army locations remain in close contact with Angel Tree families throughout the year, ensuring their well-being and providing continued support.
As the holiday season continues, The Salvation Army also calls for community support through its Red Kettle Campaign, with just seven days of bell ringing remaining. Volunteers are urgently needed to help raise funds to support essential programs and services provided by The Salvation Army year-round.
