KILLEEN, Texas — 6 News was able to watch every student at Killeen Elementary School fill with joy as they each received a wrapped gift for Christmas on Friday, Dec. 15.
Killeen Elementary Parent Liaison Wayne Moore shared the significance of the gift giving: "For some of these kids, this is the closest thing they will get for Christmas."
Approximately 1,100 gifts were given in an effort coordinated and financed by Shelly Salas and her team at Salas Team Realtors. The motivation behind her efforts is rooted in personal experience. "My husband and I, we just grew up really, really poor and it really was a horrible feeling when Christmas came around and you didn't have a gift to open," Salas explained.
The Salas Team hand picked every single gift that was given out on Friday. "We go out and individually buy every single gift. We personalize it. We put ourselves in the children's shoes," Salas said.
This year was the fifth year that Shelly Salas and her team has pulled off this feat and the school's staff couldn't be more appreciative. "And a special thank you to the Salas Team. They do a wonderful job. I love them all to pieces," Moore exclaimed.
