KILLEEN, Texas — The first ever Battle of the Food Trucks is set to kick off in Killeen on Friday, Oct. 20.
As numerous food trucks battle it out and the community enjoys an assortment of food, money will also be donated to New Life Village.
New Life Village is a Texas-based non-profit organization dedicated to making a positive impact on the lives of those in need.
Issamary Banks-Nieves is at the heart of the vision for this organization.
Banks-Nieves wants to take a plot of land she owns in Killeen and turn it into a sanctuary for children who age out of foster care.
Her goal is to build tiny homes on her land that would become homes for these kids.
Right now she and her team need the funding. That is why they need the support of the community this Friday.
"We want our youth to have everything they could possibly need the second they move in," she added.
The battle will be held at the Special Events Center in Killeen. People can show up anytime and enjoy an assortment of food from an array of food trucks from 11:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.
There will also be live music performances by local talents Tammy and Kent and James Deangelo.
A tiny home will be raffled off along with other surprises, with all the proceeds going back to support New Life Village.
Texas Today will be live with Banks-Nieves Friday morning. Tune in to Six News from 4:30 to 7:00 a.m. to see all the fun and hear more about the event.
For those interested in becoming vendors at the event, there are hundreds of opportunities available. Interested parties can contact the organizers via email at admin@newlifevillagectx.org for more information and to apply.
