City of Troy launches new water well to enhance drinking water supply

Residents may notice slight changes in the water's taste and feel due to the mixing of surface and groundwater in the distribution system.

TROY, Texas — The  City of Troy announced the start of a new water well on the north side of the city, on Nov. 9.

The well is part of a $2.1 million capital improvement project started in 2015.

Residents may notice slight changes in the water's taste and feel due to the mixing of surface and groundwater in the distribution system. These changes have been more noticeable in the past week due to increased need of well water.

Previously, Troy operated a smaller well and primarily relied on water from the City of Temple under a contractual agreement.

The new well will provide an alternative source of water, supporting the city's growth and ensuring a stable supply during operational disruptions.

The City of Troy is doing regular safety testing of its water through the Texas Department of State Health Services and following regulations set by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
