COPPERAS COVE, Texas — Two tortoises have been rescued from a house fire in Copperas Cove, TX, according to the Copperas Cove Fire Department.
The department reported that firefighters responded to a structure fire on Friday, Feb. 16. When firefighters arrived to the scene, they reportedly found an outbuilding in the back of the residence on fire.
Firefighter Jaylen Stanley was able to rescue two pet tortoises from the building, said Copperas Cove FD, both of which the department says were 60 years years old.
While Stanley saved the tortoises, other firefighters reportedly worked to extinguish the fire.
Copperas Cove FD said both tortoises were checked out by an animal control officer and were deemed to be in "good condition".

Copperas Cove FD said they responded to the fire with six units, including two fire engines, one command vehicle and three ambulances for a total of 12 personnel.
The department reported the call was dispatched at 8:53 a.m., and the fire was extinguished at 9:02 a.m.
