MARLIN, Texas — The Animal Control officer in charge of the Marlin Animal Control Center is "not working right now" after a Facebook post showed allegedly malnourished dogs in unsanitary conditions on Jan. 9, according to Marlin Police Chief James Hommel.
On Jan. 9, a Facebook post made by Jeffrey Rich showed pictures and videos of dogs at the Center living in their own feces with their ribs and hips clearly visible due to presumed malnourishment.
6 News spoke with Hommel about the situation.
Hommel said the Animal Control Center will not be open again until he gets some policies in place fixing issues like drainage.
Hommel also said no dogs will be brought into the Center for the "foreseeable future".
The Animal Control Officer who was in charge of the facility is "Not working right now while this is going on", according to Hommel, though he did not specify if the officer is on leave or if they are an employee of the City.
The Marlin City Code Enforcer is currently in charge of the situation, the Animal Control Center and the services it provides, according to Hommel. They are reportedly working with rescues to care for the dogs in the Center and find places to put any more dogs they may receive.
Hommel said he had no further comments on the situation at this time.
An outside investigation has been launched by the Falls County Sheriff's Office.
6 News will provide updates on the situation as we learn more.
