TEMPLE, Texas — Seeing a need for support is why Amy Dixon, founder of the Human-Animal Support Coalition, created the organization. The organization was founded this year to help out furry friends. Dixon says the mission of the organization is to provide affordable and accessible pet-related services for every pet owner within the community.
On Sept. 28, the Human-Animal Support Coalition will be providing free vaccinations, micro-chipping, grooming and pet supplies from 9 a.m. until noon at Wilson Park in Temple. While the services are being done, they want residents to remain in their cars. Even though this is a free event, the organization is always willing to accept donations.
When you arrive, there will be two copies of vaccination forms that you will need to fill out. After your pet has been vaccinated, you'll be directed to the next service.
Dixon said that for people on a tight budget, this event is a great opportunity so that they and their pets can stay happy, healthy and safe.
"Family loses their job and they need temporary support with pet food," Dixon said, explaining who all the event is meant to help. "It could be grooming assistance. It could be lost pet assistance. Their pet ends up with a shelter, but they work until the shelter is closed so they're not able to reclaim their pet until maybe the weekend, and then the fees are too high, preventing them from being able to bring their pet back home."
The hope of the organization is to host more events and help out as many furry friends as possible.
"We are just hoping to get to a point where there's an equal level of services for folks with pets as well as human services," Dixon told 6 News.
