Belton Police find eight puppies in Heritage Park trash can

Police said the puppies were brought back to the department and "cleaned, dried, warmed and fed".

BELTON, Texas — Eight puppies were rescued in Belton, TX after allegedly being left in a trash can at a local park, according to the Belton Police Department.

Belton PD said they received a call on Monday, Feb. 12 about what sounded like a litter of kittens in a trash can at Heritage Park.

Instead of kittens, however, Belton PD said the officers found eight puppies in the trash can.

According to the department, the puppies were taken back to Belton PD, where they were cleaned, dried, warmed and fed.

Seven of the eight puppies who were rescued from the trash can survived, said Belton PD. The seven surviving dogs are reportedly in foster care until they can be adopted.

Belton PD said they are grateful for the actions of the concerned resident and the response of the officers.

"We are working to make sure that eventually these pups run with the big dogs," said the department in a post on social media.
