Reason to Smile: A husband isn't letting COVID-19 stop him from visiting his wife

Former Mayor of Belton visits his wife at memory care center three times a week

TEMPLE, Texas — Former Mayor of Belton, Bob Kennedy, isn't letting the Coronavirus stop him from visiting his wife, Bettye, at Luvida Memory Care in Temple.

Three times a week he goes to the center and visits Bettye through a glass window and admits it hasn't been easy visiting his bride this way. The one constant, the bouquet of flowers he is still able to deliver during a time of social distancing, something, he said, the center has allowed him to continue.

The couple recently celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary.

"Not being able to touch her and hold her was devastating," he said, admitting these are challenging times.

Through these tough times and uncertainty, Kennedy said he's fortunate the memory care center has found a way for him to be able to visit Bettye and hopes, someday soon, he'll be able to give her hug once again.
