MIDWAY, Texas — Exceptional talent knows no boundaries, and for three Midway High School students, their shared passion for the violin has led them to the pinnacle of musical achievement in the state of Texas.
Senior Alanna Schubert, junior Esther Kim, and freshman Glenn Eshelman have been distinguished as members of the 2024 Texas Music Educators Association All-State Orchestra.
The journey towards All-State recognition started earlier this fall at the regional level, where students individually performed selected compositions before a panel of judges who evaluated each musician's performance. Based on their rankings, a select group advanced to the area competitions, and from there, the highest-ranking musicians earned their titles as All-State musicians.
The All-State audition process began with a staggering pool of over 70,000 high school students from across the Lone Star State. Midway's three violinists have emerged as among the top 2.6% of students to be named All-State musicians.
This marks Alanna Schubert's fourth consecutive year as an All-State Orchestra honoree, while Esther Kim secures her second consecutive year of earning this prestigious honor.
They will have the opportunity to showcase their musical prowess at the annual Texas Music Educators Association Clinic/Convention, scheduled to be held in February in San Antonio.
