WACO, Texas — Over 1,000 students in Waco are ready for the school year thanks to the annual Waco Police Department Back to School Bash.
The event, held at the Doris Miller Community Center from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on July 27, provided free services to students to help them prepare for the upcoming school year, according to the department.
At this year's event, the 4th annual Back to School Bash, Waco PD said they were able to give away "well over" 1,000 backpacks with help from community partners, the event's numerous sponsors and those who donated supplies.
In addition to the backpacks, the event also provided free school supplies, immunizations and over 100 haircuts from The Golden Shear Waco Heads Up Barbershop and Bella Beauty College: Waco, said the department.
"Thank you to all our volunteers, staff and everyone who made it possible!" said Waco PD in a post on social media. "Many went above and beyond, and words can’t express how much we appreciate you all."
