The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) Council 22196 is inviting Central Texans to experience Día de los Muertos with them in Temple this November.

On Thursday, Nov. 2, the organization will host a Día de los Muertos celebration at Santa Fe Plaza, located at 301 W Avenue A in Temple, Texas. Community members are invited to come by to enjoy the celebration and experience "a blend of Mesoamerican ritual, European religion and Spanish culture" said LULAC.

Día de los Muertos, or the Day of the Dead, is a holiday often celebrated in Mexico and other Latin American countries, as well as communities in the United States, meant to honor loved ones who have died.

According to LULAC, the celebration will include a Catrina contest, a photo booth, food, arts and crafts, live performances and a movie under the stars for children.

A community ofrenda will also be set up on Nov. 1, where members of the community can leave flowers and pictures of their loved ones. The full celebration will take place the next day.

LULAC said any money raised during the event will be given back to the community in the form of a scholarship for local students.
