Christmas is made a little more special for fallen vets

Honoring veterans with wreaths this holiday season! Wreaths for Vets is back and we have all the dates and events you can attend!

KILLEEN, Texas — The annual Wreaths for Vets events are here! Beginning on Saturday, Nov. 23 the Killeen Special Events Center is holding a Wreath Preparation ceremony for fallen veterans. The event is located at 3301 S WS Young Dr. in Killeen from 10 a.m. until noon.

One week later, a Wreath Laying Ceremony will be held on Saturday, Nov. 30 at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery. The cemetery is located at 11463 S. Highway 195 in Killeen and will be held from 10 a.m. until every grave has a wreath. Parking for this event will be at the Texas A&M Central Texas, and shuttles will be provided for you starting at 8:30 a.m. until noon.

Lastly, there will be an opportunity to come and gather your wreath on Saturday, Jan. 11 starting at 10 a.m. Parking will still be at Texas A&M Central Texas and shuttles will be provided.

According to Wreaths for Vets, the ceremony began back in 2007 when Wreaths Across America sent wreaths to the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery. One person believed every grave deserved a wreath and within three days enough wreaths were gathered to make it happen. In 2023, there were around 9,500 graves but that's not the case for this year with almost 11,000 graves. Wreaths for Vets are still taking volunteers with no signup required!
