BELTON, Texas — Take a step into the past at Z&H Candy Toys and Soda and soak in the nostalgia of yesterday in the new year.
The shop has soda and candy made from hand, an old-fashioned phone and cash register, all to bring the community together.
Virginia Benavidez opened the store at the Katy Depot in Belton with her husband in September 2023.
They've noticed with the nostalgia, a lot of family and friends have gathered to enjoy what they have to offer.
"Grandparents are telling the younger kids 'Oh we had that phone at my home once too,'" Benavidez said.
Benavidez added that everything they sell is from Texas. The toys and lollipops for sale are made by hand for everyone to enjoy. There are even some books by local authors available.
Overall, Benavidez said she wants to give everyone the candy shop from the past, like the one from Willy Wonka.
She said there's value in remembering and honoring the past.
"Just the magic of seeing families come in and get excited that we're here."
Along with all the old fashioned décor, Benavidez wants everyone to know about her Soda Club. It's $30 a month and allows you to get all the soda you want.
