Photos: Waco area sees flooded streets, vehicles submerged

In Hewitt, which saw about 3+ inches of rainfall in the morning, officers found a van partially submerged along the 900 block of Old Hewitt Road.

WACO, Texas — Scattered showers and thunderstorms brought heavy rain to many parts of Central Texas, including the Waco-area, which saw flooded roads and several water rescues, according to multiple agencies.

The Waco Fire Department first tweeted about this "significant weather event," warning drivers about the road conditions. In the tweet, they said city streets were flooded and crews were responding to several calls about stalled vehicles and submerged cars in high water.

In Hewitt, which saw about 3+ inches of rainfall in the morning, officers found a van partially submerged along the 900 block of Old Hewitt Road. On Facebook, officers said the van was only occupied by the driver, whom they were able to rescue while the van was continuing to fill up with water.

"This is just one example of the flooding we had this morning," Hewitt PD posted on Facebook.

Before 10 a.m., the Woodway Public Safety Department also warned the public of standing water and debris, especially on Highway 84 going eastbound near South Bosque Vet Clinic. The department shared a photo of the road on Facebook, which also appeared to show authorities rescuing a woman from an SUV that got stuck in the middle of the flooded road.

Authorities continue to urge drivers to use extreme caution while on the roads, especially if there is flooding.

Hwy 84 Eastbound near South Bosque Vet Clinic has standing water in both lanes. Traffic is backed up to South Bosque River. Several local streets still having standing water and debris in the roadway.
