GIDDINGS, Texas — Central Texas Christian (10-1) defeated Sacred Heart Hallettsville (6-5) 52-6 to advance to the TAPPS Division IV Semifinals.
Earlier this season Central Texas Christian defeated Sacred Heart for the first time in program history. The Lions have now parlayed that into a playoff win against the same team they have struggled to beat for years.
From the opening kickoff it was all Lions, Evan Allerkamp took the opening kick the distance to give Central Texas Christian an early 7-0 lead.
Another Lions' touchdown from Princeton Schneider on a lateral play increased the lead to 14-0.
The Lions' defense stepped up big to aid in the defeat, in just the first half they forced three interceptions. The Indians had an opportunity to score a touchdown early in the second quarter but were stopped on 4th and goal.
The Lions were able to march all the way down the field after the stop and score another touchdown on an Austin Evans rush.
At the half it was all Central Texas Christian 24-0.
The Lions' dominance continued early into the second half. A touchdown on their first offensive possession made it 31-0 and an interception the following drive all but sealed the Indians' fate.
After a couple more forced interceptions, the Lions went up 45-0 heading into the fourth quarter.
After a quick touchdown to make it 52-0, both teams seemed content with running out the clock to end the game.
A last-minute TD from the Indians prevented them from getting shut-out, but a missed extra point summed up the night for Sacred Heart.
Following the loss, Sacred Heart ends their season with a 6-5 record, two of their losses coming at the hands at Central Texas Christian.
After their dominating win tonight in Giddings, Central Texas Christian will play the First Baptist Saints (9-1) after their win against Mercy Culture Prep.
