Veterans receive care at Operation Stand Down

Veterans were able to pick up free clothes, eat hot meals, receive medical attention and more at the fourth annual Spring Stand Down.

KILLEEN, Texas — Homeless veterans were able to eat hot meals, receive medical attention, pick up free clothes and more Saturday during Operation Stand Down's fourth annual Spring Stand Down.

Operation Stand Down holds two stand downs each year and is run by volunteers looking to help homeless veterans.

"Every person that wore a uniform deserves dignity and respect," Joann Courtland, director of Operation Stand Down, said. "We need to celebrate those veterans. We need to make sure they know we care and that someone cares about their service to our country."

The organization focuses on helping homeless veterans but also offers help to the whole homeless population of Bell County.

Anyone looking to help the cause can donate new clothes or personal items at OSDCT's store front in the Cove Terrace Shopping Center.
