KILLEEN, Texas — Over 200 homeless veterans were able to eat hot meals, get free clothes and receive expert advice Saturday at Operation Stand Down.
Operation Stand Down happens twice a year, and about 100 more veterans came out to this event than the one held last October. It continues to grow with help from plenty of volunteers.
Joann Courtland, director of Operation Stand Down Central Texas, said she hopes to continue to see those numbers grow because even one homeless veteran is too many.
"The fact we partnered with the Central Texas Homeless Coalition, Bell County and the City of Killeen-- who are having their quarterly homeless triage-- we're seeing even more people," Courtland said. "I can't say enough about it, we're just really excited."
Channel 6 was a proud sponsor of the event, which was part of National Make a Difference Day.
