SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — The word "moist" could be Merriam-Webster's next Word of the Year after Kraft Real Mayo delivered a giant jar of mayonnaise to its headquarters in Springfield, Massachusetts.
Moist, defined by Merriam-Webster as slightly or moderately wet, has been an adjective of controversy since its inception.
Many people may feel uncomfortable when they hear the word for various reasons, but sometimes it is the ultimate descriptor when trying to characterize certain foods.
The leader of this campaign, Kraft Real Mayo, recognizes some of the naysayers, but believes the pros outweigh the cons.
"Kraft Real Mayo is proof -everything is better 'Moist.' Sadly, the internet hasn't always agreed. That's why we're hacking the Word of the Year competition by searching 'Moist' as many times as possible, to redeem this polarizing-yet-velvety-smooth word," the company shared on its website.
Whether it's an extravagant marketing ploy or an honest attempt at boosting the adjective's popularity, we can all recognize and appreciate the effort of creating such an enormous condiment jar.
