TROY, Texas — The City of Troy needs $3.1 million to rebuild roads that residents say are riddled with potholes and crumbling asphalt.
A project like this would rebuild infrastructure like Goates Road in order to keep up with the influx of people in the area, but it can’t be done with just the taxpayers' money.
Gary Smith, the City Manager of Troy, told 6 News he has requested funding from the Killeen-Temple Metropolitan Planning Organization, or KTMPO.
Funding was requested in October of 2023. There is no word on when it could be given to the City or whether it even will be.
Smith said there’s a chance he will have an update from the organization come March. If the City does receive it, the money would enhance the infrastructure in Troy to match the amount of houses being built.
“Goates Road is behind...without question,” Smith said.
Goates Road is a prime example of what needs to be fixed for many people in the community, who said they’ve popped their tires, ruined their cars and had to get new ones because of the road's condition.
Smith said they have been working on the road here and there with taxpayers’ money to try and maintain it. They’ve recently worked on a drainage system that should help the area out in the long run.
“We are looking at using different and better materials when we patch things up,” Smith added.
Smith says this will ensure the roads are taken care of in the weeks to come and until the City hopefully receives funding from KTMPO.
Since 6 News first presented this story on air, the City of Troy has posted to their Facebook with an update on a project that began in 2020.
