Fairfield ISD cancels classes because of widespread flu and other illnesses

The school district posted to its Facebook page that canceling classes for the rest of the week was in the best interest of students and staff.

FAIRFIELD, Texas — The Fairfield Independent School District canceled classes until Monday due to widespread cases of the flu, strep and stomach viruses.

The district announced the closure on its Facebook page Wednesday, writing, "After careful consideration, it is in the best interest of students, staff and community to cancel Fairfield ISD classes for Thursday and Friday, January 31 and February 1."

The district said its cleaning services would be able to do a better job if all staff and students were out of the building.

The district planned to resume classes as normal on Feb. 4.
