Driver escapes after high-speed chase ends in crash in Harker Heights

Police said the man was driving as fast as 120 miles per hour when he crashed into a culvert and got away on foot.

HARKER HEIGHTS, Texas — A man who led authorities on a high-speed chase Monday is on the run after crashing his car and getting away.

A Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper tried to stop the driver of a 2017 Dodge Challenger around 11:41 a.m. on I-35 near Midway. The driver refused to stop and the officer chased after him.

The driver exited I-14 and continued west on several side streets. A sergeant said the chase reached speeds up to 120 miles per hour.

The driver lost control of the car and crashed in the area of Old Nolanville Road and Yaupon Drive in Harker Heights before he got out of the car and ran into a neighborhood, troopers said.

Police used K9 units to try to find him but they called off the search after about 30 minutes.

Police said the man is a known suspect but they did not release his name or description.
