BELTON, Texas — Historic Mount Zion United Methodist Church in Belton is getting closer to renovation after the City Council authorized a $519,068 contract on Wednesday, Aug 14.
The project includes both interior and exterior renovations:
- Masonry repairs
- Window and door replacements
- Installation of a new HVAC unit
- Flooring and ceiling upgrades
- Bell tower restoration
- Improvements to rain gutters, sidewalks and parking lot
The renovation is funded through various sources including:
- $100,000 from the African American Cultural Heritage Action Fund of the National Trust for Historic Preservation
- $75,000 from Preservation Texas through the Texas Rural African American Heritage Grants Program
- $25,000 in matching contributions from the members of the Mount Zion United Methodist Church
- $319,068 from the City of Belton’s allocation under the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021
