ARLINGTON, Texas — The Texas Rangers today announced that the club signed right-handed pitcher Ryan Garcia, the team’s second round selection in the 2019 Major League Baseball Draft.

The 21-year-old Garcia was named the 2019 Pac-12 Conference Pitcher of the Year.  He finished with a 10-1 record and 1.44 ERA (15 ER/94.0 IP) over 16 games/13 starts for the Bruins this past season, posting 117 strikeouts against just 26 walks and limiting opponents to a .160 batting average.  He allowed two earned runs or less in all 13 of his starts. The junior right-hander was a First-Team All-America selection and was also a semifinalist for both the Golden Spikes Award and Dick Howser Trophy and was on the watchlist for the College Baseball Foundation Pitcher of the Year award.

In his three seasons with the Bruins, the right-handed pitcher finished with a 20-2 record, 2.11 ERA (43 ER/183.0 IP), 206 strikeouts, and a .171 opponent batting average over 54 games/25 starts. He was a three-year varsity baseball letter-winner at La Salle High School in Pasadena, California.

With today’s announcement, the Rangers have now signed 17 of the club’s 41 selections in the 2019 MLB Draft, with Garcia being the highest selected signee.
