San Antonio Commanders' roster features local talent

Three former Baylor Bears and two Central Texas natives play for San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO — Close to 30,000 fans were at the Alamodome Saturday to watch the Commanders, the San Antonio Alliance of American Football team, take on the Orlando Apollos.

San Antonio's roster is sprinkled with names that Central Texans will most likely recognize. There are three former Baylor Bears who play for the Commanders.

Former Midway Panther safety Orion Stewart is featured on the roster, and offensive lineman Cyril Richardson, who was an All-American at Baylor and a fifth-round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, starts for the Commanders.

Ex-Bear Mo Porter also sees a lot of playing time on the offensive line.

There are Baylor ties on the coaching staff as well. Former Baylor head coach Jim Grobe is the defensive coordinator for San Antonio.

Former Ellison Eagle David Cobb plays running back, and former Copperas Cove Bulldawg Duke Thomas plays defensive back for SA.

The Commanders fell to Orlando 37-29 Saturday night. They are now 1-1 on the year.

They'll be on the road for the next four games before returning to the Alamo City on March 23 to take on Atlanta.
