TEMPLE, Texas — Jack Welch has unpacked his whistle and come out of retirement.
The former Copperas Cove Head Football Coach has been named the Special Teams Coordinator, Running Backs Coach and Camp Director at Division II Texas A&M-Commerce. Welch retired as the all-time leader in wins from Copperas Cove. He went 193-84-1 in 24 years.
This is Welch's fifth coaching stint at the collegiate ranks. He was an Offensive and Special Teams Coordinator for West Texas State from 1982 to 1984.
Welch then went north to become the Head Football Coach at Kansas Wesleyan from 1985 to 1986 before leaving for Fort Scott Community College to become the Athletic Director and Head Football Coach from 1987 to 1992.
He also spent the 1993 season as Special Teams Coordinator and Tight Ends coach at Louisiana Tech. Last season, Texas A&M-Commerce went 10-3, losing 34-28 to Tarleton State in the regional semifinals.
