Baylor comes back to win 3rd place at Getterman Classic

The 16th-ranked Lady Bears lead 2-0 before Southern Miss took the lead.

WACO, Texas — It looked promising early one, but a Southern Miss rally put Baylor's backs against the wall.

The 16th-ranked Lady Bears beat Southern Miss 4-3 on Sunday in the third-place game of the Getterman Classic at Getterman Stadium in Waco.

The win ended a two-game losing streak after UT-Arlington beat Baylor in both matchups Saturday during the tournament's final round-robin game and semifinal.

Nicky Dawson opened the scoring for BU on a Kassidy Krupit sacrifice line-drive to center field in the 1st inning.  The Lady Bears added a run in the third before Southern Miss scored three runs in the fourth and fifth innings to take the lead.

Watson scored again in the fifth on a Josie Bower double before Bower scored the go-ahead run after Hannah Smith reached on a Southern Miss error.

Next, Baylor will host the Baylor Invitational Friday-Sunday at Getterman Stadium.  The field includes North Texas, Kent State and Louisiana-Lafayette.

Baylor's first game of that tournament will be Friday at 3 p.m. against North Texas.
